        STOCKHOLM |
        Fri Oct 1, 2010 7:14am EDT

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - This year's Nobel Prize for Literature will be announced on October 7, the Swedish Academy which hands out the 10 million Swedish crown ($1.49 million) award said on Friday.
Swedish poet and writer Tomas Transtromer is the bookmakers' favorite to win the prize, ahead of three other poets: Poland's Adam Zagajewski, South Korea's Ko Un and Syria's Adonis.
The winner of the award, which can thrust relatively obscure authors into the international limelight, is notoriously difficult to guess, with a series of surprises in recent years.
