Over 60 to be charged in Zeus Trojan cybercrime
NEW YORK - Prosecutors plan to unveil charges against more than 60 defendants allegedly involved in a global cybercrime scheme that used the Zeus Trojan and other Internet viruses to steal millions of dollars from U.S. bank accounts. The charges will be announced later Thursday by federal and state law enforcement officials including U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara in New York, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr, and officials from the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, according to press statements from prosecutors.
Apple takes legal battle with Nokia to Britain
HELSINKI - Apple has sued Nokia in Britain, extending the two technology giants' legal battle over patents beyond U.S. borders. "We are investigating the claims, which appear to be based on nine implementation patents already in suit between the two companies in the United States," said Nokia spokesman Mark Durrant.
Facebook and Skype exploring partnership: report
BANGALORE - Social networking website Facebook and Internet telephone company Skype are in talks to establish a partnership that is aimed at integrating their communication services, Wall Street Journal said, citing a person familiar with the situation. Under the proposed partnership, Facebook users would be able to sign into Skype through their Facebook Connect accounts, the Journal said.
Nintendo 3DS delay casts gloom over games giant
TOKYO - Nintendo's <7974.OS> struggle to bring its hotly anticipated 3D-capable player to the market has sparked concerns over the outlook for the company, with sales of its existing products sliding in key U.S. and European markets. Nintendo shares fell more than 9 percent on Thursday after the video game maker slashed its profit forecast for the year and said its new 3D-capable handheld player would miss the crucial year-end shopping season.
EU seeks to boost defences against cyber attacks
BRUSSELS - European Union policymakers said on Thursday they want to combat large-scale cyber attacks that could paralyze modern, industrialized nations that rely on computer networks. Proposals put forward by the European Commission include criminalizing the use and creation of malicious software or possession of tools such as passwords for breaking into computer systems. According to the European Commission, cyber attacks in the last two years have grounded French fighter planes, blocked access to German military systems and interrupted e-mail traffic within the British defense ministry.
Three Sprint execs resign from Clearwire board
NEW YORK - Three top executives of Sprint Nextel <S.N> resigned from the board of its Clearwire Corp <CLWR.O> venture, stoking speculation it would pave the way for a wholesale deal or equity stake sale to T-Mobile USA. Sprint said the resignations were only to comply with new developments in antitrust laws on director independence and was unrelated to any negotiations Clearwire might be having with potential investors.
LG and Microsoft team-up in cloud computing
SEOUL - South Korea's LG Electronics said on Thursday it had signed a partnership deal with Microsoft on cloud computing and virtualization, hot IT technologies aimed at helping business cut costs. Under the pact, LG will introduce monitors integrated with Microsoft software. The monitors will function as virtual computers, allowing multiple users to run programs off a single standard PC, LG said. Virtualization refers to technology that allows one computer to perform the work of many machines.

Berlin Wall shooting video game angers victims' relatives
BERLIN - A German student has created a computer game giving players a taste of life as an East German border guard shooting political fugitives fleeing to the West, to the outrage of victims' relatives. The game "1378" -- the length in kilometers of the border between East and West Germany in the Cold War -- awards border guards who shoot an exceptional number of escapees a medal. They then find themselves in the year 2000, on trial for the shootings they carried out in the name of the East German Communist regime.
