ADVERTISEMENT The opera has closed its Hartford headquarters and laid off all staff. It says the 2,000 subscribers won't be getting their money back on two recently canceled springtime productions, including "La Boheme." Opera board Chairman John Kreitler says the group is not filing for bankruptcy because that would cost too much. He says opera officials are working with creditors and calls the opera "another casualty of the economic conditions." The state attorney general's office says it is looking into the closure. A letter to customers who had bought now-worthless tickets suggests that they write off the cost as a charitable contribution to the opera. ___ Information from: The Hartford Courant, http://www.courant.com Email Story IM Story Printable View Blog This Recommend this article Average (0 votes) Sign in to recommend this article » Most Recommended Stories » Related Articles: Entertainment & Lifestyle Chris Brown, Rihanna in running for Image AwardsAP - 1 hour 13 minutes ago Zellweger plays woman desperately seeking husbandReuters - 1 hour 17 minutes ago Connecticut Opera closes down, citing bad economyAP - 2 hours 40 minutes ago Report: Hardwicke declined huge `New Moon' paydayAP - Friday, February 13 Thirst for learning defies forced marriage in filmReuters - Friday, February 13 Most Popular – Entertainment Viewed Merrill bonuses made 696 millionaires: probe ABB annual net profit drops to 3.1 bln dlrs British armed police swoop on cowboy party Crisis shakes steel, auto, oil sectors Indian woman has football-sized tumour removed from jaw View Complete List » Search: Home Singapore Asia Pacific World Business Entertainment Sports Technology Top Stories Most Popular Copyright © 2009 Yahoo!
