Merced, CA, United States (AHN) - U.S. Marshals caught a 73-year-old cop killer and child molester Wednesday after he spent four years on the run and was considered one of the nation's top 15 most-wanted fugitives.

Paul Clouston was apprehended at a men’s group home in Merced, CA, Deputy U.S. Marshal Kevin Connolly stated.

Reports stated a man bearing a resemblance to Clouston was seen sitting in a chair reading a newspaper.

The man gave a false name three times before admitting he was Clouston, according to reports from the Marshals office.

Connolly said a viewer tip to the television show “America’s Most Wanted” led to the capture.

Clouston murdered a police detective in Buena Park, CA, in 1972, according to a Marshals Service statement. He was convicted and served a 10-year sentence.

In 1991, he was indicted on 17 counts of sexual abuse on children in Williamsburg, VA, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Clouston pleaded guilty and was sentenced to prison. In 2005 he was paroled, but made the fugitive list after failing to register as a convicted sex offender in Virginia.
