Dell CEO says annual rev to surpass $60 billion
SAN FRANCISCO - Dell Inc <DELL.O> CEO Michael Dell said the company is on track to bring in more than $60 billion in revenue this year, as he showed off the computer maker's newest 7-inch tablet. Speaking at the Oracle OpenWorld conference in San Francisco on Wednesday, Dell said the company's revenue has grown about 20 percent over the past two quarters, and "it looks like we'll probably do that again this quarter as well."
E-readers gain traction, spur sales: poll
NEW YORK - Electronic readers have surged in popularity in recent years and will continue to gain traction with Americans, but they might remain a niche device coveted mostly by avid bibliophiles. About eight percent of U.S. readers use an e-reader. But a Harris Interactive poll released on Wednesday showed that about 12 percent of Americans, or one in eight, said they are likely to get one in the next six months.
NBCU CEO unlikely to join Apple 99-cent rentals
NEW YORK - NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker said on Wednesday his company is not likely to follow rivals to make its TV shows available for Apple Inc's new 99-cent rental service unveiled earlier this month. Offering NBC's shows for that price on the Apple TV service would undermine the value of their shows, he said.
Study finds iPhone owners want to switch to Verizon
NEW YORK - Close to half of Apple Inc <AAPL.O> iPhone users in the United States would be "very interested" in dumping AT&T Inc <T.N> for Verizon Wireless <VZ.N> as a service provider, according to a study from professionals service firm Deloitte. "If another carrier were to pick up the iPhone, you would probably see a number of defections," said Ed Moran, director of insights and product innovation at Deloitte.
RIM may launch tablet device next week: report
TORONTO - Research In Motion <RIM.TO> may use a developers' conference next week to announce plans for a tablet computer to compete with Apple's <AAPL.O> iPad and Amazon's <AMZN.O>, the Wall Street Journal said on Tuesday. RIM, the company that makes the BlackBerry smartphone, has been widely expected to join the tablet market this year with a product dubbed BlackPad. RIM recently claimed the www.blackpad.com domain name, fueling the speculation.

NEW YORK - NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker said on Wednesday his company is not likely to follow rivals to make its TV shows available for Apple Inc's <AAPL.O> new 99-cent rental service unveiled earlier this month. Offering NBC's shows for that price on the Apple TV service would undermine the value of their shows, he said.
JetBlue, ViaSat in air cabin broadband deal: report
PARIS - U.S. discount airline JetBlue <JBLU.O> is set to announce a deal with satellite communications firm ViaSat Inc <VSAT.O> to put ultra-quick broadband links on its 160 aircraft, Flight International reported on Wednesday. The potentially ground-breaking deal would fit the airline's Airbus <EAD.PA> and Embraer <ERJ.N><EMBR3.SA> planes with Ka-band links which have the ability to transmit high-speed data and handle broadband entertainment, the report said.
Vodafone CEO sees Verizon merger unlikely
NEW YORK - A merger between Vodafone Group Plc <VOD.L> and Verizon Communications Inc <VZ.N> would be less likely than other alternatives for the parents of Verizon Wireless, the chief executive of Vodafone said on Wednesday. Vodafone owns a 45 percent stake in Verizon Wireless, which is controlled by its majority parent Verizon Communications; but because Vodafone does not receive a dividend from the venture, the British operator has been under pressure from shareholders to find an alternative.
India in talks on BlackBerry e-mail access: source
NEW DELHI - India is in talks with Research In Motion Ltd to gain access to BlackBerry corporate e-mails after securing access to instant messages sent via the devices, a senior government source said on Tuesday. India, which along with several other countries has expressed concerns that BlackBerry services could be used to stir political or social instability, had threatened RIM with a ban if it were denied access to data.
AT&T says half a million iPads use its network
NEW YORK - About a half a million iPad owners use AT&T Inc's <T.N> network to connect the Apple Inc <AAPL.O> tablet computer to the Internet, according to the telephone company's top executive Randall Stephenson. AT&T, the No. 2 U.S. mobile service, is the only U.S. operator providing cellular connectivity for iPad, of which Apple said it sold 3.27 million units in the second quarter alone.
