MARKET SNAPSHOTS

* The rupee <PKR=> ended at 85.55/60 to the dollar on Monday, unchanged from its previous close, but dealers expected pressure on the local unit following an increase in international oil prices.

* The Karachi Stock Exchange's benchmark 100-share index <.KSE> ended 2.19 percent, or 239.85 points, higher at 11,205.84, its highest close since July 2008.

* Foreign investors bought shares worth a net $7.1 million on Monday.

* Bank shares weighed on Wall Street on Monday as Europe's smoldering debt crisis and fears of an insider trading probe in the United States sapped buying interest for most of the session.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> fell 24.97 points, or 0.22 percent, to 11,178.58. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> dipped 1.89 points, or 0.16 percent, to 1,197.84. But the Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 13.90 points, or 0.55 percent, to 2,532.02. [.N]

* Oil fell to near $81 on Tuesday, extending losses seen in the previous session, as the dollar gained on persistent euro zone debt concerns.

U.S. crude for January <CLc1> shed 44 cents to $81.30 at 0303 GMT, after dropping 24 cents on Monday. Oil hit a high of $82.10 earlier. ICE Brent <LCOc1> was down 59 cents to $83.37. [O/R]

* Gold prices were steady on Tuesday as uncertainty if Ireland could secure a bailout supported prices.

Spot gold <XAU=> edged down 0.2 percent to $1,363.6 an ounce by 0034 GMT. U.S. gold futures <GCZ0> gained 0.4 percent to $1,363.3 [GOL/]
