Share November 22, 2010 2:31 p.m. EST Topics: human interest, offbeat, homicide, curiosity, crime, crime, law and justice, United States Windsor Genova - AHN News News Writer Washington, DC, United States (AHN) - A jury issued a guilty verdict on El Salvadoran Ingmar Guandique Monday, finding him the murderer of former federal intern Chandra Levy. The jurors’ verdict, announced at a Superior Court in Washington, D.C., was based on witnesses’ testimonies. Two women testified that Guandique, 29, attacked them at Rock Creek Park. Guandique’s former cellmate also told jurors that the immigrant admitted to him in 2006 that he killed Levy. Guandique was serving a prison sentence at the time for attacking the women joggers. Levy, 24, went missing on May 1, 2001 in Washington, where she completed an internship as part of her master’s degree studies at the University of California. California congressman Gary A. Condit, who was reported as having an affair with Levy, became a suspect in her disappearance but there was no evidence linking him to the crime. Police had searched Rock Creek Park for any signs of Levy one month after she disappeared but failed to find anything. A year later a man found Levy’s skull in the park. Police recovered her remains and belongings in an ensuing search. The state of Levy’s remains no longer permitted a DNA test to gather evidence and determine the killer, so the case dragged for years.
