KARACHI, Feb 9 - Following is a list of events in Pakistan as well as news stories and press reports which may influence financial markets.

* State Bank of Pakistan to sell 150 billion rupees worth of treasury bills at an auction on Wednesday.
* Federal Bureau of Statistics to release monthly external trade data on or soon after Wednesday.
* Pakistan State Oil <PSO.KA> and MCB Bank <MCB.KA> to announce quarterly financial results on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
MARKET SNAPSHOTS
* The rupee gained sharply on Tuesday to end at an 8-month high amid soft demand for the dollar from importers and healthy inflows. The rupee <PKR=> ended at 85.24/29 to the dollar, firmer than the previous day's close of 85.49/54.
* The Karachi Stock Exchange's benchmark 100-share index <.KSE> ended 0.53 percent, or 66.42 points, lower at 12,360.94 on turnover of 94.36 million shares.
* Foreign investors bought shares worth a net $164,472 on Tuesday.
* The Dow notched a seventh straight day of gains on Tuesday, but light volume suggested that investors don't believe the more than five-month rally has the momentum to keep going.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 71.52 points, or 0.59 percent, at 12,233.15. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was up 5.52 points, or 0.42 percent, at 1,324.57. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 13.06 points, or 0.47 percent, at 2,797.05. [.N]
* U.S. oil climbed above $87.20 a barrel on Wednesday, led by strong performances in the global stock markets and a surprise draw down in crude inventories in the world's top oil consumer.
U.S. crude for March <CLc1> rose 33 cents to $87.27 a barrel at 0300 GMT, while ICE Brent <LCOc1> was up 21 cents to $100.13 a barrel, with the spread between the two grades hitting a new record high at $12.86 a barrel. [O/R]
* Gold slipped on Wednesday, after rising 1 percent the previous session, as investors and other physical buyers in Asia stayed on the sidelines following China's second interest rate increase in just over six weeks.
Spot gold <XAU=> fell $1.35 to $1,362.24 an ounce by 0259 GMT. It had risen as high as $1,367.83 on Tuesday, its strongest since late January. [GOL/]
