Cigarette butt found in Eu Yan Sang herbs
Channel NewsAsia - 54 minutes ago
SINGAPORE: Eu Yan Sang has pulled one of its products, Xia Ku Cao herbs, off the shelves after a customer complained that she had found a cigarette butt in one of the packets.
Delise Oh and her husband take Chinese herbs regularly. Last Sunday, they discovered a cigarette butt in the herbs that she had bought the previous month.
Upon closer examination, she saw that the butt had Chinese wordings on it.
In a written reply, Eu Yan Sang said raw herbs are imported from China although they are then re—packed by the supplier for sale in this market. It is not clear at which stage the problem may have occurred.
Eu Yan Sang, which said it takes quality control seriously, is investigating the complaint. Meanwhile, it is re—examining the contents of every packet of Xia Ku Cao herbs.
The company added that while it believes it has adequate checks in place, it will appoint an independent third party auditor to investigate and check all repackaging procedures.
