NEW YORK - Sony Corp <6758.T> has filed a patent infringement complaint seeking to block LG Electronics Inc <066570.KS> from shipping smartphones such as its Rumor 2 model to the United States. China defends rare earth quotas as in line with WTO
BEIJING - China defended its export controls on rare earth minerals on Thursday, saying that they were in line with World Trade Organization rules, after a government move to slash export quotas on rare earths sparked trade concerns. China, which produces about 97 percent of the global supply of the metals used in the production of numerous high-tech products, cut its export quota by 35 percent for the first half of 2011 compared with a year earlier, saying it wanted to conserve reserves.

Beijing has run a highly publicized drive against what officials said was smutty and lewd content overwhelming the country's Internet and cell phones, threatening the emotional health of children.
Sears, Kmart launch Alpahline online video store
LOS ANGELES - Sears and Kmart are entering the digital-movie rental and sale industry with the new online video store Alphaline Entertainment. SEATTLE - Microsoft Corp <MSFT.O> co-founder Paul Allen relaunched a wide-ranging patent lawsuit against Apple Inc <AAPL.O>, Google Inc <GOOG.O>, Facebook and others with specific allegations that the companies are illegally using technology owned by his company. Interval Licensing LLC, a small research company set up by Allen in 1992, originally filed a broad patent suit in federal court in Seattle in August, but Judge Marsha Pechman dismissed it on the grounds that it did not specify any actual products or devices. The revised suit was filed by Interval on Tuesday.
