MARKET SNAPSHOTS * The rupee <PKR=> ended at 85.67/73 to the dollar, firmer than Wednesday's close of 85.81/88. [PKR/] * The Karachi Stock Exchange's benchmark 100-share index <.KSE> ended 1.22 percent, or 145.44 points, higher at 12,031.46, its highest close since July 2008. Volume was 140 million shares compared with 99.78 million traded on Wednesday. [.KA] * Foreign investors bought shares worth a net $5 million on Thursday. * U.S. stocks closed slightly lower on Thursday as a trio of better-than-expected economic data wasn't enough to entice buyers to take on much risk in a market sitting on strong gains just before the new year. The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 15.67 points, or 0.14 percent, at 11,569.71. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was down 1.86 points, or 0.15 percent, at 1,257.92. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 3.95 points, or 0.15 percent, at 2,662.98. [.N] * Oil eased further below $90 on Friday on forecasts for warmer weather in the U.S. Northeast, the world's top heating oil market, and a smaller-than-expected drawdown in U.S. crude stocks. NYMEX crude for February <CLc1> fell 20 cents to $89.64 a barrel by 0149 GMT, adding to losses of more than a dollar the previous session. [O/R] * Gold edged up on the last trading day of the year, gearing towards its strongest annual gain in three years, supported by a languishing dollar and a firm outlook for precious metals into 2011. Spot gold <XAU=> gained 0.3 percent to $1,407.55 an ounce by 0301 GMT, on course for a 29 percent annual gain and a fifth straight month of gains. U.S. gold <GCG1> climbed up 0.2 percent to $1,408.3 an ounce.
