Anne Lu - Celebrity News Service News Writer
Washington, DC (CNS) - Ben Affleck has filmed a radio and television public service announcement (PSA) for Paralyzed Veterans of America to raise awareness of the U.S. servicemen who have spinal cord injuries.
The Academy Award winner appears in the ad with U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.) James Crosby, who was paralyzed in a rocket attack in Iraq.
Crosby's truck came under rocket attack after only a month of duty in Iraq and he was hit by flying shrapnel. He wake up in the U.S. and was told he was paralyzed.
Affleck, who played a U.S. Army Air Corps pilot in the 2001 drama "Pearl Harbor," said in the ad, "Many actors have played the part of a U.S. service man in the movies, but for veterans such as James Crosby? his service and his sacrifice for our country are real."
Paralyzed Veterans national president Gene A. Clayton said they hope that through the PSA, millions of people will hear about their work and will want to join their efforts.
The ad will be launched to coincide with the Veterans Day on November 11.
