Police officer Wiliardi Wizar, who is also on trial for the crime, said senior police had made him give false statements implicating suspended Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chief Antasari Azhar in the March shooting murder of businessman Nasrudin Zulkarnaen. "The content of the April 30 police investigation report is all lies," Wizar told the South Jakarta district court. He said police had guaranteed his release in return for giving false evidence in line with a report prepared from another defendant, businessman Sigid Haryo Wibisono. "At midnight at around 12:30 am, I was approached by three police members and persuaded to change and adjust the police investigation report in line with the report of Sigit Haryo Wibisono," he said. "The reward was that in the morning I would be freed," he said, adding that that alleged promise was broken. Azhar, 56, has accused police and prosecutors of seeking to frame him in revenge for the KPK's tackling of entrenched graft. Police allege Azhar carried out the killing after Zulkarnaen attempted to blackmail him over a Jakarta hotel room tryst with the businessman's 22-year-old golf caddy wife. Indonesia's media has been alight with outrage after the revelation last week of phone recordings that uncovered an alleged plot by senior police and prosecutors to bring down the KPK by concocting charges against top officials. The country's top detective and the deputy chief prosecutor stepped down Thursday after wiretap recordings allegedly showed them conspiring to frame two KPK deputy heads. Hundreds of Indonesians have taken to the streets in protests in support of the KPK, with a page on social networking site Facebook in support of the two deputy heads attracting more than 1.2 million members.
