Pakistan army discovers van packed with explosives
AP - 1 hour 55 minutes ago
PESHAWAR, Pakistan - The Pakistani army says it has discovered a van packed with almost 900 pounds of explosives in the country's northwest. It says militants planned to use the vehicle in a suicide bombing.
The army media center says the van was discovered during a raid Sunday on a house in the Khyber tribal region near the Afghan border. Six suspected militants were arrested in the raid.
The army says it found suicide jackets, rockets, assault rifles and improvised bombs in the house.
The 880 pounds (400 kilograms) of explosives were hidden throughout the van.
The army has been in Khyber trying to secure the main supply route for U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan. The army says information from militants arrested during the operation led to Sunday's raid.
