(AHN) - In the middle of a round of television interviews, former President Bill Clinton on Friday praised President Barack Obama, giving his wife's former rival an A in his first month in office. "The American people, I think, know the president has tried to reach out to Republicans," Clinton told ABC. "And it takes two to tango. I think there are some of them who really believe that just-say-no politics is good politics... Sooner or later, I think if he just keeps chugging along, just keeps the door open, invite 'em to every economic conference, invite 'em to every meeting, eventually, he'll start getting some [legislative] votes." Obama last week visited hard-hit states to rally support for his $787 billion economic stimulus plan, which was passed by Congress despite strong Republican opposition. The President had repeatedly issued dire warnings if the plan was not passed. At the same time, he also re-iterated that it would take some time before the nation resolves its economic crisis. Clinton told ABC he liked that Obama "didn't come in and give us a bunch of happy talk" and instead "shot straight with us." But he added, "I just would like him to end by saying that he is hopeful and completely convinced we're gonna come through this." The former president had given an interview with FOX the previous day. He had said, "I think when you go out into the country, you're more likely to get more of your message out, at least in the regions where you are. So I can't criticize him for getting out of Washington once a week and getting out and around. I think that's an important part of the job."
