The report comes ahead of the world's fourth-largest flat TV maker's launch of its 3D TV in the United States this month amid rivalry with TV makers such as Samsung Electronics Co Ltd <005930.KS>, LG Electronics Inc <006570.KS> and Sony Corp <6758.T>. China to punish hackers, says no Google complaint BEIJING - China has pledged to punish hackers who attacked Google <GOOG.O> if there is evidence to prove it, but said it has yet to receive any complaint from the world's top search engine. Google sent shockwaves across business and political circles in January when it declared it would stop censoring Chinese search results, and threatened to pull out of China -- the world's largest online community with 384 million users at the end of last year -- over hacking and censorship concerns. IPad to hit stores April 3 SAN FRANCISCO/NEW YORK - Apple Inc <AAPL.O> said the first iPads will be in U.S. stores on April 3 and hit nine international markets later in the month, easing concerns that manufacturing constraints could delay launch. The news sent shares of Apple surging as much as 4.3 percent to an all-time high of $219.70 on the Nasdaq, as analysts said the speedy international rollout could help build sales momentum. Google takes aim at Microsoft with acquisition SAN FRANCISCO - Google Inc stepped up its assault on Microsoft Corp's productivity software business with the acquisition of a small start-up company that allows Microsoft users to edit and share their documents on the Web. Google said on its company blog on Friday that it has acquired San Francisco-based DocVerse. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. FBI director warns of growing cyber threat SAN FRANCISCO - Militant groups, foreign states and criminal organizations pose a growing threat to U.S. security as they target government and private computer networks, FBI Director Robert Mueller said on Thursday. In a speech to an Internet security conference, Mueller said militant groups like al Qaeda had primarily used the Internet to recruit members and plan attacks, but had made clear they also see it as a target. 2010 chip revenues to top pre-recession levels: iSuppli SAN FRANCISCO - Global chip sales could rise by more than a fifth this year, bringing them back above pre-recession levels, industry watcher iSuppli said on Friday. Intel Corp <INTC.O>, Advanced Micro Devices Inc <AMD.N>, Nvidia Corp <NVDA.O>, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd <005930.KS>, Altera Corp <ALTR.O>, and others are expected to pull in combined revenue of $279.7 billion, iSuppli said, outlining both dramatic growth for the companies and the depth to which the economic downturn hit them over the last three years. Microsoft to stay its China course despite Google spat BEIJING - Microsoft <MSFT.O> said it will stick to its development strategy for the China Internet search market regardless of the outcome of Google's <GOOG.O> high-profile spat with Beijing. Microsoft has kept a relatively low profile in China since Google announced its decision to potentially withdraw from the market over censorship issues and following an attack on its systems that it believes originated in China. Microsoft to sell phones on Verizon by summer: source NEW YORK - Microsoft Corp <MSFT.O> is aiming to launch two phones that will be sold by top U.S. mobile operator Verizon Wireless in late spring or early summer, a person briefed on the matter said on Thursday. The phones would be targeted at heavy users of social network sites, according to the person who asked not to be identified as the devices have not yet been announced. EU urged to level playing field for Web browsers HELSINKI - Makers of six small Web browsers are urging the European Union to push Microsoft Corp <MSFT.O> to provide them more visibility in its browser choice website. Microsoft pledged last December to give European consumers better access to rival Internet browsers in Windows, ending a long antitrust dispute with the European Union. TiVo wins ruling in EchoStar case, shares soar SAN FRANCISCO - A federal appeals court affirmed on Thursday a contempt finding against Dish Network Corp <DISH.O> and EchoStar Corp <SATS.O> in their long-running patent case against digital video recorder maker TiVo Inc <TIVO.O>, sending TiVo shares soaring 52 percent. The U.S. District Court for Eastern Texas had previously imposed contempt sanctions against sister companies Dish and EchoStar for violating a court-ordered permanent injunction to stop making and selling DVRs.
