NZ stocks open stronger after Wall St gains

WELLINGTON, Nov 5 - New Zealand's benchmark stock index opened up around 1 percent on Wednesday, as U.S. stocks gained more than 3 percent on bargain hunting and the start of voting in the presidential election.
The benchmark NZX-50 index <.NZ50> last traded up 27.76 points at 2,872.50.
Top stock Telecom Corp <TEL.NZ> was down a cent at NZ$2.36, while the number two stock Contact Energy <CEN.NZ> was 0.7 percent or five cents higher at NZ$7.40, and the third biggest stock Fletcher Building <FBU.NZ> rose 15 cents or 2.6 percent at NZ$5.99.
So far this year the NZX-50 index has fallen around 29 percent.
