Share August 17, 2010 2:38 p.m. EST Topics: history, human interest, people, celebrity, entertainment, arts, culture and entertainment, celebrity buzz AHN Entertainment Staff Gujarat, India (AHN) - Sabarmati Ashram, the place where India's "Father of the Nation" Mahatma Gandhi lived and "from where was born the idea of his struggle for the freedom of our country..." was witness to an advertisement shoot recently featuring 67-year-old superstar Amitabh Bachchan. For Bachchan, affectionately known as the Big B in film circles, the shooting, as the Brand Ambassador of Gujarat Tourism, was a contemplative experience, which he shared with his fans through his famous blog. The Ashram is located in Ahmedabad, the State capital of Gujarat. During the shoot, Bachchan was required to walk some distance and to do that part, he promptly took off his shoes and walked the distance barefoot. In his words, "I removed my shoes by the road and walked about barefoot, even though all others do not. It is not required that they do so but I could not somehow make myself to not go barefoot. The sanctity and the purity of the premises just prompted me to do it." Next on the shooting agenda was spinning the legendary charkha (spinnning wheel), which the Bollywood icon did, sitting inside a room, with one of the inmates of the ashram. As he tried his hand at spinning khadi, the "simple and intricate procedure" left him in "extreme joy." Dressed in traditional India attire, Bachchan spent about 3 hours shooting at the ashram, before he wrote in the visitor's book, "a unique experience in a pious spot." During the course of the shooting, Bachchan also toured the Sabarmati river front, right on side of the ashram. Besides Sabarmati ashram, Big B is scheduled to shoot for other parts of the advertisement in Lothal and Adalaj Vav in Gujarat.
