The high court rejected a Justice Department appeal defending the law and handed a victory to those who argued that the efforts of Congress to regulate cyberspace by keeping minors away from online pornography infringed on free-speech rights. Researchers develop new semiconductor ink CHICAGO - U.S. researchers have developed a new type of semiconductor ink that brings companies a step closer to making bendable computer screens or inexpensive sensor tags to help retailers keep track of their inventory. The discovery lies in the new material -- a soluble semiconductor ink capable of carrying a negative electrical charge, said Philippe Inagaki, chief executive officer of Polyera Corp, a specialty chemicals company in Skokie, Illinois, that makes materials for flexible and printed electronics. Sirius XM to raise some prices as debt looms NEW YORK - Sirius XM Radio Inc <SIRI.O> plans to increase prices for subscribers with multiple accounts and begin to charge for its online music feed, moves that may help the pay-radio service meet looming debt payments. While it is keeping its core rates unchanged -- a condition to which Sirius and XM Satellite Radio agreed last year in order to close their merger -- the move could also anger subscribers still raw from a series of programing changes enacted in November. Apple faces SEC review over Jobs health disclosure: report SAN FRANCISCO - Regulators are examining Apple Inc's <AAPL.O> disclosures about Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs' health problems to ensure investors were not misled, Bloomberg said, citing a person familiar with the matter. The Securities and Exchange Commission's review does not mean investigators have seen evidence of wrongdoing, the person told Bloomberg. The person declined to be identified because the inquiry is not public, the news service reported. China extends "lewd" crackdown to mobile phones BEIJING - China has extended a crackdown on electronic porn to the country's mobile phones, after shutting down 1,250 websites because of their explicit content, the official Xinhua agency said Wednesday. "We will incorporate 'lewd' messages spread via mobile phones into the crackdown," the report quoted a joint notice from the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Culture and five other government offices saying. Robot assistant as good as human in some surgery LONDON - Using a robot to operate a camera in gall bladder operations is as safe as working with a human, British researchers said on Wednesday in an analysis that underscores the effectiveness of robot technology in surgery. While robots may not be ready to take over, they offer vast potential to do things such as allowing doctors to perform emergency operations without having to wait for a human assistant, Kurinchi Gurusamy of the Royal Free Hospital in London and colleagues said in the Cochrane Review journal. Microsoft expected to cut jobs as profit weakens NEW YORK/BOSTON - Microsoft Corp <MSFT.O> is expected to post a quarterly profit that misses its own target and announce thousands of job cuts this week as the global economic slump hurts even the technology industry's biggest players. When the leading software maker reports fiscal second quarter results on Thursday, investors are likely to press for comments on its outlook and on Yahoo Inc <YHOO.O>, whose search business has been the object of Microsoft's desires. Intel slashes processor prices as AMD looms SAN FRANCISCO - Intel Corp <INTC.O> is slashing prices on a number of its processors, including cuts of up to 40 percent on some of its higher-powered, faster quad-core chips, as the world's largest chip maker copes with weakening demand. The company, which called the changes part of regularly scheduled price moves, is confronting slumping demand brought on by the global economic slowdown, along with new, cheaper chips from Advanced Micro Devices Inc <AMD.N>. Pricing fears rise in shrinking cell phone market HELSINKI - Nokia <NOK1V.HE> and its main cell phone rivals have started to slash prices as demand falls and retailers cut inventories after lackluster holiday sales. Consumer electronics demand slumped in the key Christmas season, and handset vendors Motorola <MOT.N> and Sony Ericsson <6758.T> <ERICb.ST> have reported grim sales figures. Refurbished iPods cheaper in China BEIJING - Apple <AAPL.O> said on Tuesday it had launched an online shop selling second-hand Apple products in China, offering discounts of up to 22 percent, as it looks to beef up its business in the country. These are products that were previously sold and returned to Apple and have undergone quality tests, the company's website said.
