Don't politicise Hariri tribunal: UN chief

ABU DHABI (AFP) - – UN chief Ban Ki-moon said on Monday that nobody should politicise the work of the UN-backed tribunal investigating the assassination of Lebanon's former premier Rafiq Hariri.

"No one should politicise the work of the Special Tribunal (for Lebanon)," Ban told a news conference in Abu Dhabi, adding "the independent judicial process should not be linked to any political debate."

"It is important not to prejudge the outcome of the investigation," said the UN secretary general.

The powerful Shiite militant group Hezbollah and its allies quit Lebanon's cabinet last Wednesday because of a dispute over the tribunal, set up to investigate Rafiq Hariri's 2005 assassination.

Talks on naming a new prime minister that were scheduled for Monday have been postponed until next week, the president's office said.
