Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban welcome new baby girl
LOS ANGELES - Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman and her country star husband, Keith Urban, announced on Monday they were parents of a new baby daughter born with a surrogate. "Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret," the couple said in a statement.
Golden Globe audience up, Gervais' hosting panned
LOS ANGELES - Host Ricky Gervais may have turned off the audience members and critics at Sunday night's Golden Globe Awards, but viewers seemed turned on, watching the show in larger numbers than one year ago. The Golden Globes, an annual film and TV awards show in Hollywood, drew just under 17 million total viewers to network NBC, which was up slightly from 2010 when British comedian Gervais, who is known for his acerbic sense of humor, hosted for the first time, according to audience figures released on Monday.
Britney Spears' latest song soars onto pop chart
NEW YORK - As forecast after its massive first-day airplay, Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" roars to a record-setting debut on Billboard's Pop Songs chart. The first single from Spears' forthcoming ninth album storms the survey at No. 16 with 4,071 plays, the highest detections total by a debuting title in the chart's 18-year history.
Golden Globes exec: Ricky Gervais "crossed the line"
LOS ANGELES - Add Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Philip Berk to the chorus of those who believe that Ricky Gervais went too far as host of the Golden Globes on Sunday night. The head of the group responsible for the awards show says that while he felt the show itself was "terrific," he too felt that Gervais' jokes about specific celebrities were too much.
Renee Zellweger, Bradley Cooper have fire scare
LOS ANGELES - Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper had to call the fire department Sunday night when a fire broke out at his mom's suburban Philadelphia home. Four engines responded to the Jenkington, Penn. house at 10:14 p.m., the dispatch supervisor tells The Hollywood Reporter. The actors were with several members of their family.
Robert Downey Jr. says Ricky Gervais "mean-spirited"
LOS ANGELES - The Golden Globes are known to be one of the most relaxed, fun awards shows of the season - but this year, thanks to tart-tongued quips by host Ricky Gervais, not everyone had a ball. Presenter Robert Downey Jr. is one of them. When Gervais introduced him on stage, he rattled off a list of the actor's films before snipping, "But many of you in this room probably know him best from such facilities as the Betty Ford Clinic and Los Angeles County Jail."
Mark Ruffalo wants academy voters to "grow a pair"
LOS ANGELES - "The Kids Are All Right" won best comedy at the Golden Globes Sunday night -- but all female directors, including Lisa Cholodenko, were shut out of the Directors Guild feature film nominations. And Mark Ruffalo is none too pleased.
"Social Network" electrifies Golden Globes
BEVERLY HILLS, California - Facebook film "The Social Network" won four Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, including best drama, making it a front-runner in Hollywood's Oscar race after sweeping several honors from critics and industry groups in recent weeks. "Social Network" also won the best director award for David Fincher, best screenplay for writer Aaron Sorkin and best musical score, written by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
Films to see box office bounce after Golden Globes
LOS ANGELES - A bevy of films are poised to benefit at the box office from Golden Globe winseven "The Social Network," which is still playing in about 300 theaters domestically and overseas in Japan. Still in the heart of their box office runs are "Barney's Version," "Black Swan," "The Fighter" and "The King's Speech," all of which picked up top Globe performance awards.
Ricky Gervais too funny for Hollywood
LOS ANGELES , the heat he put into the punch lines might have made him more of the story than the actual winners.
