Hansen Sinclair - AHN News Reporter
Venice, LA, United States (AHN) - Cleanup efforts of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico have been halted as Hurricane Alex – the first hurricane of the 2010 Atlantic Hurricane season – made landfall in Mexico.

More than 500 oil skimming ships had to return to shore because of the effects of the storm, even though it hit hundreds of miles south of recovery efforts, reports said

Efforts to burn oil on the surface and break it down using dispersants have also ceased, but drilling of relief wells continued.

Although the hurricane, which claimed one life and has since been downgraded to a tropical storm, could act as a natural dispersant, it could also hinder cleanup efforts by making oil harder to track.
