ADVERTISEMENT "I can't say today when it begins officially, but it's for soon," Ndour told journalists at his home in Senegal's capital, adding that Television Futurs Medias was currently "in the test phase." Ndour, 49, currently heads the Futurs Medias group, which includes the RFM radio station, one of the most popular in the west African country, as well as the weekly L'Observateur magazine, which tends to be critical of the authorities. Ndour said Wednesday that he plans to play an active role in launching Television Futurs Medias, which received a visit from Karim Wade, a government minister and son of President Abdoulaye Wade, last weekend. "When I turn over the telly (to staff) after six months of management, I hope that it will be very organised, very professional, with a pretty big audience," Ndour said. Known outside Senegal for his songs, percussion playing and the "mbalax" (in Wolof) popular music tradition he nurtured, along with world music ventures, in his own country Ndour is active through a charity that bears his name. Some of his followers say he has presidential aspirations, but Ndour denies this: "I don't count on getting into politics, in the sense of being a politician. "It's already up to the political parties to make democracy work within their own ranks."
