NEW YORK (AFP) - – Shares in Rovi Corp. surged on Wall Street on Monday after the company, which makes interactive programming guides and other products, announced it had reached a licensing agreement with Apple.

Rovi shares gained 9.14 percent to close at 46.45 dollars. Apple, meanwhile, hit an all-time high of 283.78 dollars during the day's trading before closing at 283.23 dollars, a gain of 2.85 percent.

Rovi, in a brief statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), said it had "entered into a multi-year agreement with Apple Inc. whereby Apple shall license intellectual property from the Company."

It said the terms of the license agreement were confidential and did not provide any other details.

Analysts said they believed Rovi was licensing its interactive program guides for use in Apple's iTunes and Apple TV service.

John Vinh of Collins Stewart said he believed the agreement is worth 10 million dollars a year and that Rovi was expected to reach additional agreements with other content aggregators such as Netflix and Amazon.
