Chase - AHN News Editor Philadelphia, PA, United States (AHN) - A Philadelphia woman who had just been arraigned in a judge's office and was being transported to a correctional facility escaped from police. The woman during her time evading authorities ran into a funeral home and hid in a coffin. 19-year-old Nicole Kelly was being transported by the Juniata County Sheriff's Department from Judge Barb Lyter's office when she made her escape. Kelly had appeared in court on other charges when authorities learned she had additional warrants attached to her. She reportedly told authorities that she "just couldn't do this." She then yanked free from the grasp of police and fled while still in handcuffs. Authorities chased Kelly but lost sight of her as she fled toward the Brown Funeral Home in Mifflintown. During the manhunt police employed several dogs and a helicopter in their search which lasted for several hours. However Dan Brown, the owner of Brown Funeral home found her in his business. He was in the building and noticed a telephone line being used when no one was supposed to be in the building. He then spotted Kelly and she ran and hid inside of a coffin. Police were called and she was subsequently arrested. In addition to the new charges Kelly is facing which includes escape, flight to avoid apprehension, burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and simple assault. Brown is also seeking restitution in the amount of $365 for the damage Kelly caused when she kicked out the rear of the coffin she was hiding in with her feet.
