Lohan fitted with alcohol monitoring device
BEVERLY HILLS - Actress Lindsay Lohan was fitted with an alcohol monitoring device on Monday and ordered to undergo weekly random drug and alcohol testing after failing to appear for a probation hearing last week in a 2007 drunk driving case. Brushing aside objections that the device would interfere with Lohan's upcoming projects, Beverly Hills judge Marsha Revel said the 23-year-old actress must now be tested for drug and alcohol use every week in Los Angeles.
Brittany Murphy's husband found dead in Los Angeles
NEW YORK - The British screenwriter husband of late actress Brittany Murphy has been found dead at his Los Angeles home, just five months after Murphy died. Simon Monjack, 39, died of natural causes Sunday night, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner's office.
Sean Hayes to host Broadway's Tony Awards
NEW YORK - Actor Sean Hayes, widely recognized for his award-winning role in the television series "Will & Grace," will host the 64th annual Tony Awards this year, the CBS television network said on Monday. The 39-year-old actor who has worked on stage, TV and in movies will host Broadway's top theater awards, which will be broadcast by CBS from New York's Radio City Music Hall on June 13.
"Lost" finale finds 13.5 million viewers
LOS ANGELES - Some 13.5 million Americans watched the last episode of TV mystery adventure series "Lost", ABC said on Monday, but many critics and fans concluded the long-anticipated finale raised more questions than it answered. The ABC network said the emotional 2 1/2-hour finale was the most-watched show on U.S. television Sunday night. Some 9.8 million watched a special retrospective, "Lost: The Final Journey," earlier that night.
Jessica Simpson wins ban on exercise video
NEW YORK - Singer and actress Jessica Simpson has won an arbitration to keep an exercise video featuring her from being marketed. The arbitrator's decision was revealed in a court filing on Friday by lawyers for Simpson, 29. The lawyers asked a New York state court to approve the April arbitration ruling, which bars Speedfit LLC and its owner, Alex Astilean, from using Simpson's name and likeness to promote the 2005 video.
KISS unveils "Hottest Show on Earth" tour of U.S.
LOS ANGELES - A decade after KISS embarked on a farewell tour, the rock band on Monday unveiled a three-month series of U.S. concerts starting in July and modestly titled the "Hottest Show on Earth." The band is currently playing Europe, and will take a month off before beginning their U.S. trek in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on July 23. Dates are on tap through September 24 in Phoenix, Ariz.
Boring or beautiful? Cannes winner splits critics
CANNES, France - Not enough good movies, too few stars and a choice of winner that had many scratching their heads -- the 2010 Cannes film festival is unlikely to be remembered as a classic. Thai film "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives," one of 19 entries in competition, took the coveted Palme d'Or for best picture, delighting some critics but angering others.
Serbia dreams of becoming movie hotspot
BELGRADE - Serbia basked in the Hollywood spotlight this spring as its capital became the backdrop -- and sometimes war zone -- for the screen adaptation of the lesser-known Shakespeare tragedy "Coriolanus." After isolation during real wars in the 1990s, Serbia is hoping Coriolanus, starring Ralph Fiennes in his directorial debut and Gerard Butler, will usher in a new era of film production to a country that needs an economic and image boost.
Ailing rocker Bret Michaels wins "Celebrity Apprentice"
LOS ANGELES - Rock singer Bret Michaels finally had a reason to celebrate on Sunday after a string of medical emergencies -- winning the reality TV show "The Celebrity Apprentice." The show's host Donald Trump told Michaels he was "hired" in Sunday's finale, winning $250,000 for his nominated charity, the American Diabetes Association.
Thai film surprise winner in Cannes
CANNES, France - A mystical Thai movie exploring reincarnation won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes film festival on Sunday, beating out pre-award favorites including Britain's Mike Leigh who left empty-handed. "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives" was directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, who nearly did not make it to Cannes to present his film due to political unrest at home.
