S.Korea bonds steady, helped by low rates outlook

SEOUL, April 5 - South Korean bonds held steady early on Monday helped by expectations that interest rates will remain low for some time, which offset the impact of a slide in U.S. Treasuries late last week.
The June contract on 3-year government bond futures <KTBc1> was quoted unchanged at Friday's close of 110.67 at 0240 GMT while the yield on 3-year treasury bonds <KRTSY3Y=KQ> was also quoted unchanged at 3.84 percent, dealers said.
The Ministry of Strategy and Finance also sold new 3-year treasury bonds at an average yield of 3.84 percent at an auction, which drew bids totalling 3.83 trillion won ($3.40 billion), more than triple the planned 1 trillion won.
The finance ministry and the central bank said in a joint statement early on Monday that their chiefs reaffirmed to cooperate in managing policy at their first meeting since the new central bank governor took office last week. [ID:nTOE63301F]
They did not discuss interest rate policy at the meeting, officials said, but dealers said the pledge of cooperation reinforced the market's view that rates would be kept low for an extended period.
