Credit: Reuters/Marcos Brindicci BUENOS AIRES | Tue Jun 28, 2011 10:09am EDT BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - Argentine President Cristina Fernandez canceled a trip to Paraguay on Tuesday on doctors' advice she should not fly following a minor fall last week in which she hit her head. Fernandez, who last week said she will run for a second term in an October 23 election, was briefly admitted to a hospital on Wednesday for routine checks. "Fernandez tripped over and hit her forehead and had a wound in her scalp ... the Presidential Medical Unit recommends as a preventive measure that she does not fly for the time being," an official statement said. Fernandez, 58, was due to attend a meeting of the South American trade block Mercosur in Asuncion. The statement said she would continue her duties as normal in Buenos Aires. The center-leftist president kept voters and allies guessing for months over her plans for this year's election, fueling speculation that health concerns or family pressures following her powerful husband's death might persuade her to step aside. Fernandez's husband and predecessor as president, Nestor Kirchner, died last October and she continues to wear the black of mourning. She suffers low-blood pressure and has canceled several recent engagements and foreign visits.
