Protests mar opening of Rome film festival
ROME - Keira Knightley and Eva Mendes face off as the two rival beauties in "Last Night," the story of a married couple grappling with the temptations of infidelity that kicked off the Rome film festival on Thursday. The opening ceremony was marred by a protest over the Italian government's drastic cuts to funds for cultural events, with some 800 people storming the red carpet.

LOS ANGELES - Polygamy TV show "Big Love" will end after its fifth season, starting in January, broadcaster HBO said on Thursday. The often controversial drama, starring Bill Paxton as a Salt Lake City businessman with three wives and nine kids, has run its course, "Big Love" creators Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer said in a statement.
"Mission Impossible 4" called "Ghost Protocol": Cruise
DUBAI - Oscar-nominated actor Tom Cruise said on Thursday that he wanted the fourth installment of action blockbuster "Mission Impossible" to be known by its subtitle: "Ghost Protocol." "All I wanted is not to have a number ... I always thought we should have a title aside from 'Mission Impossible'," Cruise told a news conference in Dubai, where he is currently filming.

London film festival ends with Boyle climbing drama
LONDON - The 2010 London film festival ends on Thursday with the European premiere of "127 Hours," British director Danny Boyle's retelling of the true story of a climber who cuts off his own arm to survive. Starring James Franco as real-life survivor Aron Ralston, the majority of the movie is set in a tight, claustrophobic space between rock faces and focuses on the mountaineer as he struggles to free his arm crushed under a boulder.

Garth Brooks to perform benefit for flood victims
NASHVILLE, Tennessee - Garth Brooks, the all-time best-selling star in country music, announced on Thursday he will headline a benefit concert December 17 for victims of Tennessee's spring flooding. The planned benefit at Bridgestone Arena will be the first time Brooks has performed in Nashville in more than a decade. He is semi-retired and lives in Oklahoma, performing occasional solo shows at a Las Vegas casino hotel under a five-year contract he signed a year ago.
"Sex and the City's" Charlotte won't rule out 3rd film
SEOUL - There may not be a script for a third "Sex in the City" movie, but Kristin Davis -- the dainty, unfalteringly romantic Charlotte York of the series -- won't necessarily rule out another film. "Sex and the City 2," the second movie about four stylish, single New York women prowling for men, turned in a disappointing performance after its opening earlier this year and was panned by many critics.
