S.Korea won stable; stocks, control woes offset Fed

SEOUL, Oct 29 - The South Korean won consolidated against the dollar early on Friday as weaker local stocks and worries about controls against hot money inflows offset investors' reassessment about the pace of any further easy by the U.S. Federal Reserve.
The won <KRW=> started local trade stronger, reflecting overnight's broad fall in the greenback in tandem with Treasury yields.
But the local currency turned slightly lower on weaker stocks and the Financial Times quoted President Lee Myung-bak as saying any additional measure that his country may take to smooth capital inflow should not be interpreted as capital controls. [ID:nTOE69S00K]
The Bank of Korea governor also issued another warning about offshore fund inflows into emerging markets, saying they posed a risk to financial markets. [ID:nTOE69R0BJ]
The South Korean unit was quoted at 1,123.5/4.0 per dollar as of 0050 GMT, compared with Thursday's domestic close <KRW=KFTC> of 1,123.8.
"The won came under pressure again from weaker stocks and regulation risks. But I wonder how much it would fall considering exporters' demand for end-month settlements," said a foreign bank dealer.
Seoul shares <.KS11> fell 0.88 percent as foreign investors sold a net 114.1 billion won worth of stocks on the main exchange.
Currency investors have showed muted reactions yet on data showing industrial output in September shrank for a second consecutive month from the previous month [ID:nSUL000177]
0050 GMT Prev close Won 1,123.5/4.0 1,123.8 Yen/won 13.8772/885 13.7679/745 KOSPI 1,891.05 1,907.87 (Reporting by Cheon Jong-woo and Lee Kyoung-ho; Editing by Ken Wills)
