PAKISTAN - Market factors to watch - July 14

KARACHI, July 14 - Following is a list of events in Pakistan as well as news stories and press reports which may influence financial markets.

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN PAKISTAN, ALL TIMES LOCAL FOLLOWED BY GMT: (The inclusion of diary items does not necessarily mean that Reuters will cover the event)
* The State Bank of Pakistan is due to conduct a treasury bill auction on Wednesday with a target of 100 billion rupees.
* The State Bank of Pakistan is due to release foreign investment data for June on or soon after Wednesday.
MARKET SNAPSHOTS
* The rupee firmed marginally <PKR=> on Tuesday from its record low of 85.80 to the dollar made the previous day but dealers said the local unit was likely to remain under pressure.
The rupee <PKR=> ended at 85.70/77 to the dollar, compared with a record closing low of 85.75/80 on Monday. [PKR/]
* The Karachi Stock Exchange's benchmark 100-share index <.KSE>, rose 1.36 percent, or 135.58 points, to end at 10,114.65, its highest close since May 14.
Volume was 67.97 million shares, compared with 64.70 million shares traded on Monday. [.KA]
* The net outflow of foreign portfolio investment in the stock market was $215,633 on Tuesday.
* U.S. stocks rallied for a sixth straight day on Tuesday after Alcoa's quarterly results heartened investors that had fled to the sidelines on jitters about the sustainability of the economic recovery.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 146.75 points, or 1.44 percent, to 10,363.02. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 16.59 points, or 1.54 percent, to 1,095.34. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> jumped 43.67 points, or 1.99 percent, to 2,242.03. [.N]
* Oil steadied near two-week highs around $77 on Wednesday after a 2.9 percent jump the previous day, as stock markets rallied on upbeat quarterly U.S. corporate results and signs of increasing fuel demand.
U.S. August crude <CLc1> was down 17 cents at $76.98 a barrel at 0320 GMT, less than 40 cents away from Tuesday's two-week intraday high of $77.37, but still about $10 lower than a 19-month peak above $87 in early May. [O/R]
* Gold steadied on Wednesday after rising nearly 2 percent the previous day when worries over debt problems in the euro zone bolstered the metal's appeal as a haven from risk and a currency alternative, but high price levels may prompt selling.
Spot gold <XAU=> was at $1,211.60 per ounce as of 0230 GMT, little changed from late New York levels of $1,210.65 an ounce. [GOL/]
