Gunfire heard near Kabul jirga tent
KABUL (AFP) - – Gunfire was heard Wednesday near a huge assembly in Kabul where President Hamid Karzai and 1,600 community leaders were meeting to discuss peace, AFP reporters said.
The gunfire came about half an hour after rockets were fired in the area as Karzai delivered a speech to the delegates, meeting for three days to come up with a strategy to end the long war in Afghanistan.
An AFP reporter said a gun battle appeared to be taking place near the Kabul Polytechnic University, where the jirga is taking place.
