World Parliamentary spokesman Li Zhaoxing said the increase would bring the defense budget for the year to 532.1 billion yuan ($77.95 billion), or 37.1 billion yuan over what was actually spent on defense in 2009. Last year, China budgeted 480.7 billion yuan for defense but actually spent 495 billion yuan.
