Dr. Conrad Murray also asked Judge Michael Pastor for a speedy trial of the case. Pastor set the date of jury selection to March 28. Jackson’s mother, Katherine, sister Rebbie and brother Jackie and Randy were present during the arraignment hearing. The King of Pop died on June 25, 2009 from an overdose of propofol, a surgical anesthesia. A toxicology test of his body also found benzodiazepines in his blood. Murray is on bail but the court had banned him from practicing his profession in California until the trial is over. Murray’s lawyers claimed that it was Jackson who got hold of propofol and drank it to be able to sleep. The prosecution said the doctor was negligent for leaving the drug near a patient and for failing to resuscitate Jackson appropriately leading to his death.
