Chase - AHN News Editor Fresno, CA, United States (AHN) - An 8-year-old girl kidnapped from outside of her home was rescued after an unemployed construction worker recognized the vehicle used in the kidnapping. "It's truly a miracle of God that she is with us…we certainly beat the odds," said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer. The young girl and a friend were playing in front of their apartment complex about 8:30 Monday evening when a man who authorities later identified as 24-year-old Gregorio Gonzalez drove up and promised to buy them gifts if they came with him. Neighbors witnessed Gonzalez talking to the children and yelled at the girls to run. Gonzalez then allegedly grabbed the older girl and made her get into his older-model rust colored Chevrolet pickup truck. The girl’s mother and a neighbor followed in a car but lost him. The next day Victor Perez, a man who lived near the crime scene and knew of the incident, saw the old truck pass by his home. Perez jumped in his truck and gave chase. During the chase, Perez saw the little girl in the passenger seat of Gonzalez’s truck. Perez tried to run Gonzalez off the road as the two men sped. During the brief chase the girl was thrown from the truck and Perez stopped his pursuit. Police apprehended Gonzalez 40 minutes later. Investigators say the girl admitted to being sexually assaulted by Gonzalez in a wooded area near a canal. Gonzalez, who lives with his grandparents, had been in trouble with the law before. He had been arrested on charges of possession of a sawed-off shotgun and domestic violence and was on felony probation.
