Pawlenty To Explore Nationwide Support For 2012 White House Bid June 15, 2009 10:57 a.m. EST --- Advertisment --- Kris Alingod - AHN Contributor St. Paul, MN (AHN) - Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty plans to travel the country over the next two years to find out if he can gain enough support for a 2012 White House bid, according to a report. The 48-year-old Republican governor early this month announced that he would not seek a third term but refused to confirm speculation about his plans for the presidency. Washington Whispers, quoting Pawlenty associates, says he will devote the following couple of years going around the nation to see if he can build support for a campaign. Pawlenty has repeatedly refused to confirm or deny reports about his political aspirations. During his announcement about his decision not to run for re-election, he said about the presidential bid, "I don't know what my plans are... I don't know what the future holds for me...I'm not ruling anything in or out." The governor, who served in the Minnesota House of Representatives for six terms before winning the gubernatorial race in 2002, was said to have been vetted last yearas a running mate for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), the Republican presidential nominee. A prominent social conservative that observers said could have given McCain the support of evangelicals, he is one of several Republicans including Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney who have been reported as potential presidential candidates in 2012.
