MARKET SNAPSHOTS
* The rupee <PKR=> closed at 85.04/09 to the dollar on Monday, compared with Friday's close of 84.94/98 because of import payments. Dealers expect the currency to further weaken.
* The Karachi Stock Exchange's benchmark 100-share index <.KSE> fell 159.23 points, or 1.65 percent, to 9,489.56 points on turnover of only 69.8 million shares. [.KA]
* The net inflow of foreign portfolio investment in the stock market was $3.6 million on Monday.

* U.S. stocks rose for a second straight day on Monday, boosted by AIG's record-setting deal to sell a major Asian unit and on gains in semiconductor shares after SanDisk Corp raised its revenue forecast.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 78.53 points, or 0.76 percent, to 10,403.79. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> added 11.22 points, or 1.02 percent, to 1,115.71. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> rose 35.31 points, or 1.58 percent, to 2,273.57. [.N]
* Oil was steady below $79 on Tuesday as the dollar strengthened on European sovereign risk worries and forecasts for rising U.S. crude and gasoline inventories capped prices.
U.S. crude for April delivery <CLc1> rose 11 cents to $78.81 a barrel by 0310 GMT, while London ICE Brent <LCOc1> climbed 13 cents to $77.02. [O/R]
* Gold inched down in slow trade on Tuesday as uncertainties over a bailout package for debt-stricken Greece looked likely to undermine the euro and burnish the U.S. dollar's safe-haven appeal.
Spot gold <XAU=> was at $1,117.33 an ounce by 0304 GMT, down $1.07 from New York's notional close on Monday, when it rose to its highest in almost a week at $1,123.30 on bargain hunting driven by early gains in the euro. [GOL/]
