FCC plans to announce broadband agenda WASHINGTON - The Federal Communications Commission plans to announce in coming weeks an agenda of proceedings stemming from the recommendations in the national broadband plan, an agency official said. Phoebe Yang, general counsel of the FCC's broadband task force, said on Wednesday that the FCC will launch more than 40 FCC proceedings -- such as rule-making proposals and notices of inquiry -- in the next year to 18 months. Cybersecurity bill introduced in Senate WASHINGTON - A new version of a cybersecurity bill was introduced in the Senate on Tuesday that may eliminate some opposition to the measure from the tech industry. The bill would give the president a Senate-confirmed national security advisor to lead "all cybersecurity matters," whether in defense or civilian areas, according to a summary of the bill. TheStreet.com says it's being probed by SEC BOSTON - Investment news website TheStreet.com Inc <TSCM.O> said on Wednesday the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission was investigating the company over the way it recorded revenue at a former subsidiary. Sprint expected to unveil HTC WiMax phone at CTIA NEW YORK - Sprint Nextel <S.N> will unveil a cellphone from HTC Corp <2498.TW> next week that will be the first to support WiMax, Sprint's fastest wireless service, according to analysts. Internet piracy taking big toll on jobs BRUSSELS - Plenty of people download music from the Internet every day, but illegal downloading has a huge economic impact and could put more than one million people out of work by 2015, experts say. A study into Internet piracy by a Paris-based consultancy published on Wednesday showed that 1.2 million jobs in the European Union could be lost over the next five years if more is not done to clamp down on illegal downloading.
