(AHN) - Former President George W. Bush will give his first speaking engagement since leaving the White House next month in Canada, according to the CTV. The event will be private affair, dubbed "a conversation with George W. Bush," on March 17 in Calgary, Alberta. About 1,500 are expected to attend, organizers Andy McCreath and Christian Darbyshire told CTV on Thursday. The former president will discuss his "eight momentous years in the Oval Office" and "the challenges facing the world in the 21st century," invitations reportedly say. No information has been released about ticket prices and whether Bush has a speaking fee. Bush officially left office with the lowest approval record of any U.S. president in history, as well as a nation waging two wars and the struggling against the worst credit crisis since the Great Depression. He currently lives in a new home in Dallas, where he lived in the years before becoming governor of Texas and where he recently launched a post-presidential office. He has said he plans to devote his time building his presidential library at Southern Methodist University and write a book. The 43rd president had in the weeks before his term officially ended on Jan. 20 given a series of interviews intended to highlight his legacy. He had said in a wide-ranging interview with ABC in November that one of his biggest regrets as president was the "intelligence failure" in Iraq. His administration had based its argument to invade Iraq on intelligence that Saddam Hussein was developing WMD. No such weapons were found. In his final press conference, he had said, "I have often said that history will look back and determine that which could have been done better, or, you know, mistakes I made. Clearly putting a 'Mission Accomplished' on a aircraft carrier was a mistake. It sent the wrong message. We were trying to say something differently, but nevertheless, it conveyed a different message. Obviously, some of my rhetoric has been a mistake." Bush had faced a firestorm of criticisms in 2003 after he delivered a speech on the USS Abraham Lincoln while wearing a flight suit and while a banner that read "Mission Accomplished" hung in the backdrop. His speech was delivered on May 1, six weeks after the U.S. invasion of Iraq. "I think historians will look back and they'll be able to have a better look at mistakes after some time has passed," he had added. "There is no such thing as short-term history. I don't think you can possibly get the full breadth of an administration until time has passed." But in spite of his candor about an unpopular war, Bush had repeatedly defended his "liberation" of Iraqis, saying the U.S. had fought for the cause of freedom all over the world. "I strongly disagree with the assessment that our moral standing has been damaged. It may be damaged amongst some of the elite, but people still understand America stands for freedom, that America is a country that provides such great hope," he had said.
