The Korea Composite Stock Price Index <.KS11> finished down 0.14 percent at 1986.14 points. "The market is taking a breather after hitting a fresh 3-year high in the previous session. Rising appetite to redeem equity funds at the index's current level is also pressuring the main index," said Lee Sun-yeob, a market analyst at Shinhan Investment Corp. "But the broader market's upside momentum is still intact, albeit there are a few bumps on the way," Lee added. U.S. economic data on Thursday offered new signs that the recovery was gaining traction, with claims for jobless benefits falling and wholesalers stocking up in anticipation of strong holiday demand. [ID:nN09222654] Hyundai Elevator Co Ltd <017800.KS> jumped 7.13 percent after the company said it was planning a share offering. "There appears to be competition for the shares among two major shareholders, and that speculation is fuelling buying," said Tong Yang Securities market analyst Lee Jae-mahn. In the latest regulatory filings this month, Schindler Deutschland increased its stake in Hyundai Elevator to 33.4 percent. Hyundai Logiem's stake has grown to 49.89 percent. However, falls in index heavyweight auto plays dragged the index lower. Shares in Hyundai Motor <005380.KS> declined 4.07 percent, while shares in Kia Motors <000270.KS> slipped 2.29 percent. Hana Financial Group Inc <086790.KS> outperformed and rose 1.22 percent after its chairman provided a detailed plan for the funding of its $4.1 billion acquisition of Korea Exchange Bank <004940.KS>. Hana Chairman Kim Seung-yu said late on Thursday that it was seeking a number of foreign investors, each willing to buy up to 9 percent of its shares worth about $650 million at the current price to finance the purchase. [ID:nTOE6B8076] "Hana shares are rising, led by foreign investors, as uncertainty is easing about the financing plan for the deal. The size of the rights issue is not as big as previously thought," an analyst said on condition of anonymity. "Interest in South Korean bank shares is growing among institutional investors as lenders are expected to report improved earnings next year on falling provisioning," said IBK Securities analyst Lee Hyuk-jae. Shares in Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction <034020.KS> rose 2.1 percent after the company said in a regulatory filing on Friday that it has signed a 1.06 trillion won deal with AES-VCM Mong Duong Power to provide engineering, procurement and construction for a power plant in Vietnam. [ID:nSEL003195] Trading volume was 353.7 million shares worth 5.2 trillion won, compared with an average daily trading volume and turnover of 346.6 million shares worth 6.7 trillion won in November. The KOSPI 200 Dec futures <KSc1> index rose 0.55 points to 261.80. The KOSPI 200 spot index <.KS200> shed 0.58 points to 261.74. The junior Kosdaq market <.KQ11> gained 0.54 percent to 509.20.
