Washington, D.C., United States (AHN) - Authorities are trying to determine the substance in a suspicious package sent to the Boston office of Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) on Thursday.
A bomb squad was called in around noon to investigate a package in the mailroom at One Bowdoin Square. The package reportedly contained some kind of liquid and no explosives.
"Determined through various meter readings and other procedures that the package could be transported to the State lab for further analysis," the Boston Fire Department said in a Twitter statement.
A hazmat level 2 response was given to the incident, which caused no injuries. Kerry's staff followed proper protocols and left the mailroom when they became suspicious. They were allowed to return to their office that afternoon.
Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, was not in his office at the time.
