ADVERTISEMENT The 31-year-old standout who fired an opening-round 72 Friday at Bethpage Black took advantage of perfect conditions to share fourth on three-under 137 after 36 holes, five strokes behind US pace-setter Ricky Barnes. Yano, who qualified for the event by finishing second on last year's Japan Tour money list, has great confidence he can bring Asia a major breakthrough. "I have a big chance to win. I feel like that," Yano said. "I feel like I have a chance to be the first Asian to win a major. I want to keep coming out and having that feeling." Yano said he has not yet played his best golf and he hopes that those atop him on the leaderboard will feel the tension of being on top. "I'm sure the leaders are feeling the pressure," Yano said. "I will just try to do better." The only prior major start for Yano was in last year's British Open, when he fired a 10-over 150 in the first two rounds and missed the cut by a stroke. Yano won twice on the Japan Tour in 2008, at the ANA Open and Bridgestone Open. His only other triumph since turning professional in 2000 was in the 2005 Asahiryokuken Yomiuri Memorial. Yano credits improvement on a swing motion alteration. "I tried to change my swing so it would be better and since I have been playing that way I've had good results," Yano said. Rain wiped out most of Thursday's play, forcing Yano and half the field into a marathon Friday that saw him play 30 holes. In round two, Yano birdied the fifth and sixth, the par-3 eighth and the 12th just as darkness stopped play. "What I'm doing is working very well so I'm going to keep on doing it," Yano said. "I've just made my shots and I feel very good about it." While Yano flourished, other Asians struggled at Bethpage Black. South Korea's K.J. Choi fired a second-round 71 to stand on 143 after 36 holes. South Korean Sang Moon Bae fired a second-round 72 to stand on six-over 146 with Filipino Angelo Que, who fired a 69 Saturday. They were one stroke better than South Korea's Charlie Wi and Japan's Ryuji Imada, who had 72s on Saturday. Japan's Kaname Yokoo fired a 71 to finish on 148 while India's Jeev Milkha Singh fired a 73 to finish on 151.
