ECB cuts main lending rate to 3.25%

FRANKFURT (AFP) - - The European Central Bank cut its main lending rate by half a percentage point to 3.25 percent, it said on Thursday, to bolster slumping economic growth and fragile financial markets.
The Bank of England earlier on Thursday slashed its key lending rate by a record 1.5 percentage points to 3.0 percent -- the lowest level in more than half a century -- as Britain heads towards recession.
