Shows like “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Modern Family,” “Cougar Town,” and “Castle” can thank the ratings Gods. They’ve all received early pick-ups for next season. “Grey’s Anatomy” has been picked up for an eighth season, which will begin airing later in 2011. The show is still the #1 drama among young adults, where it matters. Its sister show, “Private Practice,” also scored an early pick-up for its next season, which will be its fifth. ABC’s successful Wednesday night comedy line-up continues to be a huge hit, which grew 15% in total viewers this year. Led by “Modern Family,” the #1 comedy among young adults, the Patricia Heaton-starring “The Middle,” and “Cougar Town,” all three comedies received early pick-ups as well. They’ll both enter their third seasons. Also scoring an early pick-up for the 2011-12 season is “Castle.” The Nathan Fillion-starring dramedy not only had its third season episode order extended last year, but now the show has been picked up for a fourth season as well. ABC has four of the 10 highest-rated shows, more than any other network. While more pick-ups for next year will be announced as the year progresses, we’re sure we’ll be seeing plenty more of “Dancing with the Stars” in the future as well, the network’s #1 rated unscripted show.
