Benz's three-pointed star was shining brightly on Friday, in Shanghai, as the A160 and A180 models made their debut. It was a perfect combination of innovative technology, pioneering expertise and youthful passion - as well as the exceptional price tag of 238,000 yuan for the A160 and 278,000 yuan for the A180. The youthful and dynamic A-Class, with its high safety standards, practicality, and comfort, will undoubtedly allow the young elite not only to achieve, but also enjoy, their dreams. "In response to increased customer demand for luxury compact vehicles, we are now excited to introduce the A-Class to the Chinese market, which will make the Mercedes-Benz brand even more attainable," said Klaus Maier, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd. "Our diversified product portfolio has helped us to have a record-breaking first 10 months of the year, with more than 115,000 units already sold. And our growth of 128 percent solidifies our position as the fastest growing premium brand in China," said Maier. In 1997, when Mercedes-Benz introduced its A-Class, it created a brand-new segment in the auto industry and it has been a leader in the luxury compact segment's development ever since. "With the new A-Class in China, Mercedes-Benz has become the one with the most comprehensive young product lineup in the luxury auto market," said Bjorn Hauber, executive vice-president for sales and marketing, at Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd. The "Are You Ready" theme of the A-Class launch highlighted the individuality, trend-setting appeal, and heritage of the car. At the pre-launch "Becoming an A-Lister" online campaign, a diverse group of people shared their inspirational stories of pursuing and achieving their goals, thereby demonstrating how they are personally "living the dreams" as defined by the A-Class. "The unparalleled safety, relaxed driving and daily practicality of the A-Class, along with its exceptional price, will undoubtedly attract more young elite and aspiring Chinese customers who want the highest quality in life," said Hauber. The eye-catching radiator grill of the A-Class, dominated by the three-pointed star, announces the unmistakable DNA of the Mercedes-Benz. Its front bumper also conveys its dynamism, through a distinctive look that emphasizes the arrow-shaped front end but overall body width. In addition, the harmonious layout of the headlamps, bumper, grill, and hood showcases the strikingly stylish standards of the A-Class. And, the A-Class is the embodiment of sheer practicality, thanks to the customer-oriented design concept. Passengers have anywhere from 435 liters and 1,370 liters of trunk space. This is because of the adjustable rear seats, making the car flexible and large enough to meet a variety of daily needs. This spacious interior is made even more comfortable by the attractive design, first-class materials, and a top color concept. Beyond its unique design, the A-Class also shines with its exceptionally relaxed driving and riding experience. The high seat position provides the driver with a more enjoyable vantage point, while the Bluetooth capabilities, AUTOTRONIC transmission, and selective damping system allow for a most convenient, safe and smooth drive. There is also an Active Parking Assist on A180 that can guide the customer when maneuvering the car into a narrow parking space, with the use of only the accelerator and brake pedals. This, again, demonstrates the relaxed driving pleasure of the A-Class. Like all other Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the A-Class is equipped with the comprehensive, active and passive safety features, which the three-pointed star is renowned for. Not only does this compact vehicle offer the ultimate protection, with its safe body structure, there are also the ESP, BAS, automatic hill-start function, and an emergency interior lighting system - all of which come together to make the A-Class one of the safest vehicles in today's compact segment. The A-Class trend has already taken off in China, and it has accumulated positive market feedback during its pre-sales period, which began this past September. The entry of the A-Class into the market will undoubtedly bring the three-pointed star even closer to Chinese customers as it fulfills their dreams of owning a vehicle with the exclusive Mercedes-Benz brand, a vehicle that offers a relaxed driving experience, unparalleled safety measures, and daily practicality.
