Doucoure hurdles to second European title
AFP - Saturday, March 7
TURIN, Italy (AFP) - - France's Ladji Doucoure has added the 2009 European Indoor Championship title to his 2005 gold medal with victory in the 60m hurdles.

The 25-year-old finished ahead of Dutchman Gregory Sedoc and Petr Svodoba of the Czech Republic on Friday, the first day of this year's championships.
Doucoure clocked 7.55sec, the same time as defending champion Sedoc, who finished just behind him on the Frenchman's right. Svoboda took bronze in 7.61sec.
"I hit the second hurdle but I came back a little at the end. On the line I had some doubts about my victory but after ...it was good to be on the podium and taste victory," said Doucoure.
The win was also Doucoure's first international podium finish since winning the world outdoor title over 110 metres in Helsinki in 2005.
Russia's Yevgeni Borisov, the best athlete over the distance this year and a bronze medallist at the World Championships last year, was only fifth on Friday in a time of 7.64sec.
In the semi-finals, he had been disqualified but was then reinstated.
The performance of the day came from 25-year-old German shot putter Petra Lammert who took gold with a throw of 19.66m, the best in the world this season.
She finished ahead of compatriot Denise Hinrichs (19.63m) and Romania's Anca Heltne (18.71m).
There was disappointment in the triple jump when highly-rated 19-year-old French athlete Teddy Tamgho, the number one in the world this year, failed to qualify for the final.
The 2008 world junior champion said: "I don't know it was a lack of experience or maybe I was too relaxed but it's a big shock."
Belgian 22-year-old Eline Berings took victory in the women's 60m hurdles in a national record of 7.92sec.
The psychology student finished ahead of Czech hurdler Lucie Skrobakova (7.95sec) and Ireland's Derval O'Rourke (7.97sec).
In the day's fourth medal event, Russia's Anna Bogdamova dominated the pentathlon with a 4,761 points total.
Bogdamova took gold ahead of Dutchwoman Jolanda Keizer (4,644pts) and Antoinette Nana Djimou of France (4,618).
