Peshawar (The Nation-Pakistan) - At least four persons were killed and six others were injured while 13 containers reduced to scrap when unknown armed militants attacked huge supply of Nato oil tankers in Jamil terminal near Garhi Qamar Din area in the outskirt of Pakistan's Peshawar on Friday (February 25).
Police sources said that the militants had planted around 10 explosive time devices in various containers, which went off with a big bang in the wee hour of Friday. The militants simultaneously opened fires at the staff and transporters of the vehicles, leaving five dead and six others injured.
The consecutive blasts and containers flames were visible till to late Friday as the rescue workers and fire brigade squad arrived too much late to extinguish the fire.
A nearby CNG station was also came under attack during the firing of the militants.
Soon after the incident, Edhi ambulances and rescue staff rushed to the site and started rescue activities. They shifted the injured to Lady Reading Hospital. Those killed were identified as Muhammad Arshad son Ghulam Sarwar and conductor Zakir Hussain, both residents of Mandi Bahauddine, while the names of two other deceased could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.
According to sources, the rescue team recovered a huge amount of money from one of the killed truck drivers and handed it over to Bana Mari Fazal Mowla police.
So far no one has claimed responsibility of this attack. However, involvement of Taliban militants in such activities could not be ruled out. Though the government had claimed that terrorist sanctuaries in the surrounding areas of Peshawar and Darra Adam Khai have been dismantled but some of the hideouts are still intact.
