Search web search Home Singapore Asia Pacific World Business Entertainment Sports Technology Asia Pacific World US-ENTERTAINMENT Summary Reuters - Saturday, December 12 Send IM Story Print Michael Jackson to get lifetime achievement Grammy LOS ANGELES - Singer Michael Jackson next month will receive a posthumous Grammy for lifetime achievement, along with six other artists, organizers of the music industry's top awards said. The others honored with the annual award are Canadian singer Leonard Cohen, blues musician David "Honeyboy" Edwards, country star Loretta Lynn, pianist Andre Previn, fluegelhorn player Clark Terry and the late singer Bobby Darin. Tiger Woods taking break from golf, admits infidelity MIAMI - Tiger Woods said on Friday he would take an indefinite break from professional golf, admitting he cheated on his wife and bowing to the pressure of two weeks of frenzied media scrutiny of his private life. The world's No. 1 golfer made the stunning announcement in his latest posting on his website in which he confessed "infidelity" for the first time, said he was sorry and asked his family, friends and supporters for forgiveness. "Complicated" simplifies mature romance LOS ANGELES - "It's Complicated" is a middle-aged sex comedy but with more rom-com urges than farcical ones. It's from writer-director Nancy Meyers, who has found a comfort zone in gentle, even warm comedies about older adults facing complications that re-direct their lives into pleasantly unexpected emotional channels. "Complicated" forges ahead with these themes. Because no one else in Hollywood seemingly makes movies for middle-aged moviegoers, especially women, Meyers inevitably scores box-office successes, and this one should forge ahead in that area, too. Universal releases the film Christmas Day. What Meyers doesn't do is take chances. She sticks to formula and predictability. In "Complicated," this is as much a matter of casting as writing. 'Twilight' studio to distribute Polanski film LOS ANGELES - The Hollywood studio behind the "Twilight" teen franchise said on Friday it has acquired North American rights to distribute jailed director Roman Polanski's latest film, "The Ghost Writer". Los Angeles-based Summit Entertainment plans to release the thriller in the first half of 2010. Taylor Swift reflects on 'crazy dreams' come true NEW YORK - To say Taylor Swift had a remarkable year would be a comic understatement. She sold more albums than any artist not named Michael Jackson. Her first headlining tour, Fearless 2009, sold out every show within minutes. She became the youngest woman to win the Country Music Association's entertainer of the year award, and she set seemingly every chart record that exists. "Avatar" sets audiences on epic, visual ride PARIS - James Cameron's long-awaited "Avatar," one of the most expensive films ever made, takes off this week in an awe-inspiring display of Hollywood power that has revolutionized cinematic special effects. At a cost of about $400 million to make and market "Avatar," the Oscar-winning director of "Titanic" has created a lush world of dense forest, floating mountains and tremendous creatures in a computer-generated spectacular that transforms much of the cast into giant, blue-skinned humanoids. Sawyer move to evening alters TV news landscape NEW YORK - Diane Sawyer is changing the landscape of American broadcast television news and is likely hoping history won't repeat itself when she becomes the second woman to solo anchor a major evening news program. After more than 10 years co-anchoring "Good Morning America", Sawyer left on Friday to become anchor of ABC's World News on December 21, replacing Charles Gibson who is retiring. Mariah Carey announces "Angels" tour dates NEW YORK - Mariah Carey, who hasn't toured in more than three years, will embark on a national "Angels Advocate" trek beginning December 31 at Madison Square Garden in New York, and wrapping February 27 at the Pearl Concert Theater in Las Vegas. The eight-week, 19-city tour will feature opening act RydazNrtist, a new R&B group signed to NCredible Entertainment, the label of Carey's husband, Nick Cannon. "Avatar" a triumph of technology, storytelling LOS ANGELES - A dozen years later, James Cameron has proven his point: He is king of the world. As commander-in-chief of an army of visual-effects technicians, creature designers, motion-capture mavens, stunt performers, dancers, actors, music and sound magicians, he brings science-fiction movies into the 21st century with the jaw-dropping wonder that is "Avatar." And he did it almost from scratch. Teen actress Saiorse Ronan carries heavy roles lightly LOS ANGELES - Irish actress Saoirse Ronan was only 13-years-old when she took the part of a murdered girl who watches over her grieving family in "The Lovely Bones." But even at such a young age, she never once worried about playing a dead person. "I never really thought of Susie Salmon as someone who was dead," says Ronan, now 15, of her "Bones" character. "Although her body is dead, her soul is still there. That's what makes Susie who she is and that's what I love about her."
