Phil Spector convicted of murder

LOS ANGELES - Eccentric music producer Phil Spector was convicted on Monday of murdering a Hollywood actress in 2003, and will likely spend the rest of his life in prison. In his second trial, held after jurors deadlocked in 2007, Spector, 69, was found guilty of second-degree murder by a Los Angeles jury. The man once revered for revolutionizing pop music in the 1960s with his layered "Wall of Sound" production technique, faces 18 years to life behind bars when he is sentenced on May 29.
Caine says career will fade away like old soldier
NEW YORK - Michael Caine has been acting for more than 50 years and has no plans to retire. Instead the British army veteran says his career will simply "fade away" like an old soldier. Caine, 76, says he now only takes roles he just can't refuse and that apart from two completed movies and being contracted to reprise his role as the butler in the third Batman movie, he does not yet have another film lined up.

LOS ANGELES - The wife of actor Mel Gibson filed for divorce on Monday after 28 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. In divorce papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, Robyn Gibson asked for her 1980 marriage to the "Lethal Weapon" actor to be ended, and in a joint statement the couple, who have seven children, sought privacy.
Pearl Jam album, film, tour in the works
NEW YORK - Pearl Jam is lining up U.S. concert dates for the second half of the year, including the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival in San Francisco. Along with Dave Matthews Band and the Beastie Boys, the group will headline the festival's second edition, scheduled for August 28-30 at Golden Gate Park.
UK plays on Afghan history hold lessons for today
LONDON - An ambitious series of 12 new plays about Afghanistan opening in London this week underlines how history has a habit of repeating itself for foreign powers seeking to impose their will on an often forbidding country. The Tricycle stage, which has a reputation for political theater, has commissioned the works which will be performed in three parts made up of four short plays each.
Final season set for "The Tudors"
LOS ANGELES - Next year, Showtime's "The Tudors" will run out of wives. The network has renewed the historical melodrama starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers for a fourth and final season. The pickup consists of 10 episodes that Showtime says will dramatize King Henry VIII's last two tumultuous marriages, to Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr.

LOS ANGELES - Bravo has green-lighted a celebrity version of a "Project Runway"-style show and has a new project for "Work Out" star Jackie Warner. The network is set to announce "Launch My Line" at its "upfront" programing presentation to advertisers Tuesday.
Porn star Marilyn Chambers dead at 56
LOS ANGELES - Porn star Marilyn Chambers, who made waves in the 1970s by having screen sex with an African-American, has been found dead at her Los Angeles home at the age of 56, coroner's officials said on Monday. The Los Angeles coroner's office said an autopsy would be carried out to determine the cause of her death late on Sunday night.
