Anaheim, CA, United States (CNS) - Disneyland has set an official date for the re-opening of Michael Jackson's 1986 3D film "Captain EO." The film will officially open to Disneyland guests on Tuesday, February 23rd.
"Captain EO" will return to its former home in the California theme park for a limited engagement. The 17-minute musical film, directed by Francis Ford Coppola and executive produced by George Lucas, featured Jackson as the title character who leads a cast of sidekicks on a mission in space to fight the Witch Queen, played by Anjelica Huston.
Although it has been regarded as the first "4-D" film, which combines 3-D film with in-house theater effects, Manager, Print and Social Media for Disneyland Resort Heather Hust Rivera says some of the effects will be missing.
"While it's not possible to replicate some special effects elements from the original presentation, it will boast a new 70mm print of the film, and it will sound better than ever thanks to acoustic enhancements made to the theater since the film last played there in 1997," Rivera said.
The film had long been rumored to return to Disneyland following the pop star's death, including petitions from fans. It will replace "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience," which has played in the Tomorrowland theater since it debuted in 1998.
